Parenting with Mindful Awareness

For parents of children 2-16 years old

Learn how to truly be in the present moment with your child while also being an effective parent.

Parenting with Mindful Awareness is potentially useful to anyone who has a child. We combined mindfulness with traditional parent training techniques to create the Parenting with Mindful Awareness curriculum. This curriculum will help you learn effective strategies to reduce meltdowns and increase compliance in your child while allowing you to remain calm and composed. Your child will feel more loved, valued, and appreciated as you learn to be more present while spending time together. While the parenting techniques are specific to aiding interactions with your child, the mindfulness techniques will enrich the totality of life's experiences.

What is Mindfulness?

Mindfulness is focusing one's attention on acceptance of the present moment non-judgmentally (Kabat-Zinn, 1994), without resisting the moment. When applied to parenting, this is a powerful tool, to learn how to choose to respond to your child.

What Does the Research Tell Us about the Benefits for Adults who practice Mindfulness?

  • Increased empathy and positive thinking, and ability to sustain and direct attention
  • Reduced levels of chronic pain, negative feeling states, and stress
  • Decreased risk of depression
  • Higher levels of overall well-being
